Song Saa Private Island was founded by Australian couple Melita and Rory Hunter, who fell in love with the archipelago and committed to preserving its fragile ecosystem. The resort is built from recycled and sustainable materials, operates on solar power, and has its own marine reserve. The name “Song Saa” means “sweethearts” in Khmer – a fitting name for a resort designed for romance.

The resort’s 27 villas are scattered across two islands (Koh Ouen and Koh Bong), connected by a footbridge. Each villa is a masterpiece of minimalist design – natural timber, thatched roofs, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, and private infinity pools. The overwater villas are the most sought-after, with direct access to the lagoon and breathtaking sunset views. Interiors feature local textiles, driftwood art, and open-air bathrooms with soaking tubs.

The resort’s signature restaurant, “Vista,” serves contemporary Khmer and international cuisine with ingredients sourced from the resort’s organic garden and local fishermen. The tasting menu, “Song Saa’s Journey,” changes daily and includes dishes such as “Kampot pepper crab,” “green mango salad with local catch,” and “coconut crème brûlée.” The resort also offers private dining experiences – on the beach, on a private island, or in a floating dining pavilion.

The “Driftwood Bar” is a relaxed spot for sunset cocktails, with a menu of small plates and fresh seafood. The resort’s wine cellar is stocked with organic and biodynamic wines from around the world.

The Spa – Holistic Wellness by the Sea

The Song Saa Spa offers treatments inspired by ancient Khmer healing traditions. Set in open-air pavilions overlooking the ocean, the spa uses organic ingredients such as coconut, lemongrass, and turmeric. The signature treatment, “Song Saa Harmony,” is a 2.5-hour ritual that includes a body scrub, a warm oil massage, and a facial. The spa also offers yoga and meditation classes, as well as wellness retreats focusing on detox and rejuvenation.

Exploring the Koh Rong Archipelago

Song Saa is a gateway to one of Asia’s most pristine marine environments. The resort offers snorkeling and diving excursions to nearby reefs, home to sea turtles, reef sharks, and vibrant coral gardens. Guests can also explore the jungle interior of the islands, kayak through mangroves, or take a sunset cruise. The resort’s marine biologist leads guided snorkeling tours, sharing insights about the delicate ecosystem.

Song Saa has been recognized as one of the world’s best eco-luxury resorts by Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and National Geographic. In 2025, it received the “Best Overwater Villa Resort in Asia” award at the World Travel Awards. The resort’s foundation was also honored by the United Nations for its marine conservation efforts.
