When Vietnam hosted APEC in 2006, the event took place in Hanoi, the political and administrative heart of the nation. In 2017, it was Da Nang—a dynamic coastal city with established international event spaces.
For 2027, Vietnam has chosen an island. Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island, sits off the coast in the Gulf of Thailand. It is known internationally as a tropical beach destination—beautiful, yes, but not the obvious choice to host presidents, prime ministers, business leaders, and thousands of diplomatic and corporate delegations.
The central idea of this guide is straightforward: Phu Quoc was chosen not simply because it is beautiful. It was chosen because Vietnam sees the island as a future international destination for tourism, investment, diplomacy, events and connectivity—and APEC 2027 is being used to speed up that transformation.
