In recent years, Vietnam Railways has embarked on an ambitious transformation, turning train travel into a curated experience that rivals the world’s most scenic rail journeys.
The North-South Railway, affectionately known as the Reunification Express, has been named one of the world’s most scenic routes by Travel + Leisure magazine for two consecutive years (2024, 2025). This 1,725-kilometer coastal route connects Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, passing through historic cities, beach towns, and dramatic mountain landscapes.
Today, three distinct railway experiences offer travelers different ways to explore Vietnam by rail: the world-famous Hue–Da Nang Heritage Train across the Hai Van Pass, the premium SE19/20 overnight service between Hanoi and Da Nang, and the legendary Reunification Express connecting the country from north to south. Together, they represent Vietnam’s entry into the premium railway tourism era.
