Strupa-laos
From the majestic temples of Angkor to the tranquil Mekong shores of Luang Prabang, this 12‑day private journey unveils the spiritual and historical heart of Cambodia and Laos. With internal flights, hand‑picked 4‑star hotels, and a private guide, you’ll explore ancient ruins, floating villages, royal palaces, and participate in the sacred alms giving ceremony. Designed for cultural travellers, families, and retirees – every detail is crafted for your comfort and wonder.
This itinerary balances temple archaeology, modern history, and serene nature. In Cambodia, you’ll witness the grandeur of the Khmer Empire at Angkor, learn about recent history in Phnom Penh, and experience life on Tonle Sap Lake. In Laos, you’ll discover the relaxed French-colonial charm of Vientiane, then fly north to Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage town where saffron-robed monks and turquoise waterfalls define the rhythm of life. Three internal flights keep travel smooth; private transfers ensure you never wait in line.
Day 1: Siem Reap arrival. After your private airport transfer, settle into your 4‑star hotel. The evening is free – wander the vibrant night market, sample Khmer barbecue, or enjoy a traditional Apsara dance performance (optional). Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 2: Angkor Wat sunrise & Angkor Thom. A pre‑dawn start is rewarded with one of the world’s most iconic views. After sunrise, explore the mighty city of Angkor Thom: the smiling faces of Bayon, the Terrace of Elephants, and the jungle‑embraced Ta Prohm (“Tomb Raider” temple). Sunset from Phnom Bakheng offers a final golden panorama. Overnight Siem Reap.
Day 3: Banteay Srei & Tonle Sap Lake. Drive north to Banteay Srei, the “Citadel of Women”, carved from pink sandstone with the most intricate reliefs of the Angkorian era. Afternoon: boat excursion to Kampong Phluk, a floating village on Tonle Sap Lake. Stilted houses, a flooded forest, and the daily life of fishermen – a humbling contrast to the grand temples. Overnight Siem Reap.
Day 4: Fly to Phnom Penh. Morning flight to the capital. Visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda (floor of 5,000 silver tiles, the Emerald Buddha). Then stroll along Sisowath Quay, the lively riverfront promenade. Overnight in Phnom Penh.
Day 5: Phnom Penh – history & heritage. A moving morning at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S‑21) and the Choeung Ek Killing Fields – essential for understanding modern Cambodia. Afternoon: climb the hilltop Wat Phnom (the city’s founding pagoda) and explore the art deco Central Market. Overnight Phnom Penh.
Day 6: Fly to Vientiane. Morning flight from Phnom Penh to Vientiane (via Bangkok or direct, depending on schedule). Afternoon tour: the sacred That Luang Stupa (national symbol), Wat Si Saket (oldest temple with thousands of Buddha images), and the Patuxai Victory Monument. Overnight in Vientiane.
Day 7: Vientiane – Buddha Park & Mekong sunset. Drive to the surreal Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan), a meadow filled with over 200 Hindu and Buddhist statues. Return to the city for a sunset stroll along the Mekong riverfront – sample local snacks from the night market. Overnight Vientiane.
Day 8: Fly to Luang Prabang. Short flight to Luang Prabang. Afternoon visit to the Royal Palace Museum (formerly the king’s residence) and Wat Xieng Thong, the city’s most revered monastery with its sweeping rooflines. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 9: Alms ceremony & Kuang Si Falls. Rise early to witness the Tak Bat alms giving – a silent, sacred ritual where monks collect sticky rice. After breakfast, drive to Kuang Si Falls, a multi‑tiered turquoise cascade. You can swim in the pools and visit the nearby bear rescue centre. Overnight Luang Prabang.
Day 10: Pak Ou Caves & local villages. Take a private boat up the Mekong to the Pak Ou Caves, a cliffside shrine filled with thousands of Buddha statues. En route, stop at Ban Xanghai (whisky village) to taste local rice wine. Afternoon free to explore Luang Prabang’s handicraft shops. Overnight Luang Prabang.
Day 11: Free day or optional trek. Choose to relax, take a cooking class, or trek to a hill‑tribe village (optional, extra cost). A sunset climb to Mount Phousi offers panoramic views of the two rivers. Overnight Luang Prabang.
Day 12: Departure. After breakfast, private transfer to Luang Prabang International Airport for your onward flight.
