For travelers not covered by exemption, or those wishing to stay longer than the exemption period, the e-visa is the most convenient option.

Key overland crossings from Cambodia, Laos, and China include: Moc Bai (Tay Ninh), Lao Cai, Huu Nghi (Lang Son), Tinh Bien (An Giang), Ha Tien (Kien Giang), and many more.

Major seaports include: Hai Phong, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City, and Duong Dong (Phu Quoc).

For 45-Day Exemption Travelers

If your visit is 45 days or less and you hold a passport from one of the 13 exempt countries, you need to do nothing visa-wise. Simply ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date.

For Longer Stays & All Other Nationalities

The 90-day multiple-entry e-visa is your best friend. It offers incredible flexibility for exploring neighboring countries (Cambodia, Laos) and re-entering Vietnam, or for taking an extended, unhurried journey from north to south.

Apply Early

While e-visa processing is usually quick (3-5 working days), always apply at least two weeks before departure to avoid last-minute stress. Technical delays can happen.

Use the Official Website

Only use the official portal of the Vietnam Immigration Department (https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn) to avoid scams, inflated fees, and data security risks. The official fee is clearly stated; any site charging significantly more is not official.

Passport Validity

Regardless of visa type, your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of arrival in Vietnam. This is an absolute requirement.

Can I extend my e-visa inside Vietnam?
Currently, e-visas cannot be extended directly. However, you can exit the country (to Cambodia or Laos, for example) and re-enter using a new e-visa, thanks to the multiple-entry option.

Do children need a separate visa?
Yes, each traveler, including infants and children, must have their own visa or be covered under the exemption (if eligible).

What if my country isn’t listed in the exemption?
Simply apply for the 90-day e-visa. The process is straightforward and open to all nationalities.

Can I arrive at any border gate with an e-visa?
E-visas are only valid at the border gates listed in your application. Choose your entry point carefully when applying.
