The Reverie Itinerary

6 days | 5 nights — from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh by express boat

Day 1: Arrival in Saigon — The City That Never SleepsHo Chi Minh City

Private airport transfer · Welcome to the Pearl of the Orient — Upon arrival at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, your personal driver will escort you to your refined hotel in the city’s historic heart. The afternoon invites you to wander the fragrant streets of District 1: sip a traditional cà phê sữa đá at a sidewalk café, observe the timeless energy of Ben Thanh Market, or simply absorb the French-colonial architecture. Dinner at leisure — perhaps a rooftop bar overlooking the glittering city.

Insider note: For a truly atmospheric evening, explore the hidden speakeasies of the old quarter or enjoy a traditional water-puppet performance.
Overnight: 3, 4, or 5-star hotel (Elios / Nesta Saigon / Majestic Saigon or similar)
Day 2: Saigon’s Legacy & Cu Chi TunnelsHo Chi Minh City · Cu Chi

Notre Dame Cathedral · Central Post Office · Reunification Palace · Cu Chi Tunnels — Begin with the city’s architectural jewels: the neo-Romanesque cathedral and Gustave Eiffel’s central post office, then step into the Reunification Palace — a landmark frozen in 1975. After a curated lunch, journey 75km northwest to the legendary Cu Chi Tunnels. Descend into a 200km underground network that once concealed villages, hospitals, and command centers. Crawl through a section of the tunnels, taste the simple cassava that sustained fighters, and witness the resilience etched into the earth. Return to Saigon as dusk falls.

Insider note: Opt for the less-crowded Ben Duoc tunnel section for a more intimate experience.
Overnight: Ho Chi Minh City
Day 3: Coastal Elegance — Vung Tau’s Sea BreezeVung Tau

Bach Dinh (White Palace) · Christ the King Statue · Thich Ca Phat Dai Pagoda · Vungtau Beach — A two-hour scenic drive through rubber plantations leads to Vung Tau, a seaside escape beloved for its French colonial charm. Ascend Nho Mountain to the 32-meter Christ the King statue for sweeping ocean views. Discover the hilltop White Palace, a relic of French Indochine, then find tranquility at the giant Buddha of Thich Ca Phat Dai. After a lunch of fresh seafood, enjoy leisure time on the golden sands or promenade. Return to Saigon by evening.

Insider note: The seafood at the local market stalls is exceptional — try grilled oysters with spring onion oil.
Overnight: Ho Chi Minh City
Day 4: Into the Delta — Coconut Groves & Sampan CanalsMy Tho · Ben Tre · Can Tho

Vinh Trang Pagoda · Boat on Tien River · An Khanh island · Hand-rowed sampan · Folk music & honey tea — Depart Saigon for My Tho, gateway to the Delta. Cruise along the Tien River, passing stilt houses and fishing villages. On An Khanh island in Ben Tre, trade the motorboat for a traditional sampan, gliding under the canopy of water coconut trees. Visit a local family to taste coconut candy, seasonal fruits, and honey tea while listening to Southern Vietnamese folk melodies. Continue to Can Tho, the Delta’s vibrant capital. Evening stroll through Can Tho market.

Insider tip: Request a visit to a cai luong (traditional opera) performance if available — it’s the soul of the Delta.
Overnight: Can Tho (Iris / TTC Premium / Charmant Suites or similar)
Day 5: Floating Market Dawn & Sanctuary of StorksCai Rang · Chau Doc · Tra Su

Cai Rang Floating Market · Monkey Bridge · Tra Su Bird Sanctuary · Sam Mountain — Awake early to witness the vibrant Cai Rang Floating Market at its peak — boats laden with fruits, vegetables, and local delicacies, creating a mosaic on the Bassac River. Cruise among the vessels, savor a bowl of hủ tiếu riverside, and explore quiet village paths. Cross a classic monkey bridge (a single bamboo span) and meet locals who have lived on the water for generations. After lunch, continue to Chau Doc and enter the Tra Su Bird Sanctuary. A silent electric boat glides through flooded forests, where storks, egrets, and herons nest in the canopy. If time allows, visit Sam Mountain for sunset over the Cambodian border.

Insider note: The early morning floating market visit (around 6:00 AM) offers the most authentic atmosphere and best light for photography.
Overnight: Chau Doc (Chau Pho / Victoria Chau Doc or similar)
Day 6: The Waterway to Phnom PenhChau Doc · Phnom Penh

Your Questions, Answered

What is the best time for this Mekong journey?
December through April offers the driest weather, comfortable temperatures, and vibrant floating markets. The Delta is lushest from August to November, though occasional rains may add a romantic mist. We recommend avoiding peak rainy months (July–September) if you prefer uninterrupted outdoor excursions.
How does border crossing work on Day 6?
The express boat handles all immigration formalities. You will disembark at the Vietnamese Song Tien border, walk through passport control with your guide, then reboard the same vessel to continue to Cambodia. Visas for both countries are required in advance or e-visas arranged. We provide full documentation support.
What is the physical difficulty level?
This journey is easy to moderate. The Cu Chi Tunnels involve optional crawling (short section). Delta excursions include gentle boat rides and short walks. Participants should be comfortable with stairs at Vung Tau’s Christ statue. Alternative activities are available for those preferring less walking.
Can I upgrade to luxury accommodation?
Absolutely. We offer three tiers: 3-star boutique (charm & value), 4-star premium (elevated comfort), and 5-star heritage (Majestic Saigon, Victoria Chau Doc, Charmant Suites Can Tho). All are hand-picked for authenticity and impeccable service.
Is the tour suitable for solo travelers?
Yes, solo travelers are warmly welcomed. Single supplement applies for private room occupancy. Our guides provide attentive care, and the small-group format (max 14 guests) ensures a convivial atmosphere. Private departures are also available upon request.
What’s included and what should I budget extra?
Included: accommodation (5 breakfasts, 2 lunches), private transport, boat trips, entrance fees, English guide, express boat to Phnom Penh, and 24/7 support. Excluded: international flights, travel insurance, visa fees, beverages, personal expenses, and gratuities. We recommend USD 10–15/day for guide/driver appreciation.
